  1. Eric, I never understood this so well until I became acquainted with cats. Because they are solitary by nature, in contrast to dogs, who are pack-oriented, you feel a singular sense of being chosen when a cat seeks you out. And to have a lap-full of purring contentment is indeed a quiet thrill.
